Today I am cleaning with some of the natural cleaning products from method that I brought back with me from Chicago. I taught classes at the method store on N. Halsted. The front of the store is set up with all their natural products and the back of the store is set up for classes. I taught lip balms, facial spa teas and bath salts. We made natural body products with organic ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs. Mountain Rose Herbs graciously gifted organic Japanese green tea, organic peppermint leaf and ylang ylang essential oil for the classes. The beeswax I used was from a California beekeeper that gardens organically. The organic aloe vera from Essential Wholesale and the organic pink grapefruit flavor oil from Nature's Flavors. I formulated the lip balm, facial tea and bath salts to align with the scents in the method products. We made pink grapefruit lip balm, facial spa tea: green tea + aloe and refresh mint, bath salts: sea minerals, french lavender, lemongrass and ylang ylang.
I can't say enough about Jamie Dordek, the professional marketer for method. I was so impressed with her creativity, intelligence, friendly personality and professionalism. Also, Justine Meek was always helpful and patient coordinating with me through numerous emails and phone calls. Julia, Sylvia, Jaclyn and Renee were energetic, kind and aided me and everyone in the class. I also was fortunate to meet Louise of method from the UK, an inspiring career mom of three young children.
method is about recycling, renewable and biodegradable. In the classes, I loved how they used glass, cotton towels instead of paper towels and bamboo plates and utensils.
My daughter, Brittney was a tremendous support and assistance for me with the classes. Not only for the classes but for opening my eyes to the finer details which helps me with my business. She has a keen eye for detail, creative and unique ideas for how to display products and how a product should be improved. She is always pointing things out to me that I don't notice like method's new label for the WHITE TEA hand soap. She noticed the difference between the old and the new one. She liked the new one with the paper label better and said it draws her to want that hand soap.
To read more about the classes and view photos, Colleen Snell, a Chicago blogger, came to one of my classes and posted on her blog Chicago commuter commentary.
So, back to cleaning my home today; I cleaned three toilets with method's planet friendly toilet bowl cleaner, LIL' BOWL BLU and used the non-toxic pink grapefruit dishwasher detergent. They worked great and made my cleaning time enjoyable. I would have liked to try the wood cleaner and the ylang ylang shower cleaner but they wouldn't fit in my suitcases, they were already overloaded. I heard rave reviews about the ylang ylang shower cleaner. Next time I go to Target, I will look for them. My daughter liked the products so much she paid a $25 fee for overweight baggage to bring the products back to her home. She still wants the mop.
method was started by two men, Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry from an idea they had and a need they filled. Adam and Eric lived in a house with three other guys and their apartment would get so dirty they would clean it with heavy duty cleaning products. The fumes from the cleaning products were so intense, it made them cough. Adam and Eric started looking into the ingredients in these cleaning products and learned most were harmful poisons. Thus method was born.
I have cleaned with natural ingredients for a long time. I used to make my own products. I didn't enjoy making them but at that time there weren't natural cleaning products on the market that were accessible. I was happy to learn of method when I first saw their products. Finally, someone stepped up to create products that are easily accessible and affordable, non-toxic to ourselves, our children, our pets and our earth.
I am reading their book squeaky green: the method guide to detoxifying your home.
If you are in Chicago, it is well worth stopping by the method store and trying the products. Bring one of your toxic cleaners in and method will trade you one of their products for it. Don't wait too long as method is in Chicago only until October 12.
It makes me feel good to see the many great things that people are doing to support the earth and the wellness of all. Even amongst the news of how bad things are, I see the good and the positive direction we are headed in our country. It may have taken some time for people to get on board cleaning up the earth and creating sustainable ways. Millions of people are now on board. When enough minds come together, humans have the spirit and intelligence to reverse and cure the ill effects of the past.
A big thank you to method and Jamie Dordek for this opportunity; learning about method, teaching my classes and meeting all the wonderful people in Chicago.
